Alcohol Ink: Faux Stained Glass Workshop
Saturday, August 31/24 11am - 3pm
$80
For everyone who is interested in ALCOHOL INK and its amazing versatility....this workshop is for you!
Alcohol ink is versatile, unpredictable, mesmerizing, relaxing and affordable! Alcohol ink art spans across talent levels and experience because it's not really a medium that lends itself well to being controlled - which is why is perfect for beginners and established artists alike. There are always happy accidents that delight and surprise. No matter what you think of your creativity, everyone will make something beautiful during this workshop and will take home a one-of-a-kind lantern at the end of the evening! Everyone is supplied with a lantern of choice (colours available vary by season: black, beige, white, brown, burgundy & aluminum) with that has 4 window panes which will be removed and beautifully decorated in alcohol ink to resemble faux stained glass. Overall size of lantern is 11.5" tall x 5" wide.
So if you have you ever wondered "what's all the stink about ALCOHOL INK?" this is your opportunity to find out and I promise it's an amazing medium to explore. Alcohol ink is an acid-free, vividly-colored, alcohol-based dye that is liquid, translucent and fast drying. It is best used on non-porous surfaces (e.g. ceramics, synthetic papers, glass, etc). Versatile, unpredictable, mesmerizing, relaxing and affordable! Alcohol ink art spans across talent levels and experience because it's not really a medium that lends itself well to being controlled - which is why is perfect for beginners and established artists alike. There are always happy accidents that delight and surprise. No matter what you think of your creativity, everyone will make something beautiful during this workshop; but keep in mind that creating art is not about producing a product rather it's about enjoying and learning through the process of unexpected discoveries ! This class with alcohol ink is ABSTRACT not conceptual so we will not be focusing on how to paint landscapes or specific objects with the ink, just how to mix and move colours in various techniques that you can further experiment with on your own. Not to say that you won't be discovering some amazing backgrounds magically appearing as you move the ink on your paper or items that look like florals etc.! Enjoy the simple process of dripping ink onto synthetic paper and ceramic tiles, tilt and swirl it, blow it with a straw for a dazzling effect, feather it, blend it with metallic mixatives for a rich shimmer, add texture by using felt, spritzing with spray bottles, etc.
Each of you will be doing a large lantern, a small 4x6 or 5x7 finished "faux" stained glass framed piece and a variety of other items such as a bookmark with silk tassles and a boxed set of 4 tiny fridge magnets!vOn hand to try out will be the blow dryers used to move the ink, giotto rocket, as well as an airbrush. and many colours of ink to sample! We will learn what products are available and where is the best place to purchase them. We will also learn how to seal projects when finished because alcohol ink can fade and be reactivated if left without a finish.
NOTE: We will be using 99% isopropyl alcohol which does have a strong odor (VOC).
All supplies necessary for this workshop are provided in the registration fee but if you have some of your own items that you want to bring to class, please do so.
The Studio is in a lower level so you must be able to go up and down one flight of stairs (with railing) on your own.
Gloves and aprons are provided. Refreshments such as coffee, tea, pop, water and assorted prepackaged treats (chocolate bars & chips) are here for you but you can bring something of your own choice as well.

It's never too early to do Christmas Resin Art!
Working with resin is amazing and the possibilities are endless - really!
Each participant is given three trees with a base to transform into their own magical table centerpiece. The tree blanks and base are made from `1/4" baltic birch and fit snuggly together but can be taken apart for storage.
We have the 11" round base with the trees in a circular pattern with an area in the middle to place a candle, small bowl, or any other decorative items you may want to display OR you can choose to display them on their separate/individual bases so they can be displayed in a different way! In the picture shown below, I have an acrylic mini tree which lights up and a small glass deer. Pine cones or other items would also look so beautiful.
The second option is three trees standing independently on their own bases and they can be displayed as a grouping or split them up and have them arranged however you like. You will be given ample time and product to practice with prior to doing your resin on your trees so that alleviates the pressure of not being sure how things will go. Create cells, lacing and stunning colour variations with all the variety of supplies on hand. You will practice on three small pieces of wood board beforehand (to represent the width of the trees) and then when you feel comfortable, you will resin your final piece and decorate it with reflective glass, german glass WOW!., small swarovski flatback crystals, glitter, diamond dust, aurora flakes, whatever you can find that you would like to put on your treasure of trees!!!

This will be a FAST-PACED workshop and although you will be given ample time in which to complete your final piece, you will need to hustle to fit in all the amazing ideas and techniques during this 4 hour workshop - it goes by SO quickly! That's why we play/practice for an hour as part of the workshop so that you can test out your colours and newly-acquired resin skills prior to doing your final geode. This alleviates the pressure of not being sure how things will go or if you like the colours chosen and this is what sets my studio apart from any other. Practice through Play!
Your Creative Coach BerylAnne will provide a demonstration and give you direction on how to prep, mix resin (pigment pastes & mica powders); move resin and how to control it to give you a desired result. We will be using the side-by-side technique of laying down the resin in order to maintain the individual colour lines of each segment of our geode. You will be taught the basics of resin but there are so many ways to create different looks with this amazing medium, only a few will be offered in this specific class.
Resin requires a minimum of 12 hours to cure so you won't be able to take your project home with you the same day.
This is a teaching workshop where previous experience is not required but helpful. Age 14+ accompanied by an adult. Dress accordingly as resin is impossible to remove once on your clothes (aprons and gloves are provided).
Refreshments such as pop, water, coffee & tea and a little snack are included but feel free to bring your own if you want. Lower level studio location so you will need to be able to walk up and down stairs to access the studio. All supplies are included in the cost of the workshop but if you have any items (rocks, gems, jewelry, shiny objects) that you may want to include as part of your design, please bring them along.

Alcohol Ink Christmas Decorations
Weds., Nov. 6/24 6-9pm
$44
Have you ever wondered "what's all the stink about ALCOHOL INK?" Well, this is your opportunity to find out and I promise it's an amazing medium to explore.
The decorations are a wide variety of shapes and sizes: glass white and clear balls in small and large, bells, sublimation tiles, icicles, deer, and a few surprises as well. This class will be fast-paced and enjoyable for all creatives regardless of skill level or age! In the end, you will be taking home some lovely decorations that you've created PLUS the knowledge of this wild and unpredictable ink medium. There is an endless supply of glitter and bling to decorate your items; foils, metallics, fake snow, jewels.....etc.
NOTE: We will be using 99% isopropyl alcohol which does have a strong odor (VOC) and NOT suitable for elderly and very young people. Workshop is in the lower level so stairs are involved.
Gloves and aprons are provided. Refreshments such as coffee, tea, pop, water and assorted treats are here for you but you can bring something of your own choice as well.

Geode Inspired Resin Decorated Trio of Trees
Saturday, Nov. 16/24 11am-3pm
$85
This then allows you to decorate each tree as a separate work of art in various colours!Sizes are the same for both options: Trees are 7-10.25" high
What to Expect During the Class:
You will be given ample time and product to practice with prior to doing your resin on your trees so that alleviates the pressure of not being sure how things will go. This way you can test your colour combination choices as well as have the opportunity to see how resin flows and blends etc. Your Creative Coach BerylAnne will provide you with demonstrations and direction on how to prep, mix resin (various pastes, alcohol inks, glitters, diamond dust, interference powders, alcohol ink, mica powders, etc. will be available); move resin and how to control it to give you a desired result.
Resin requires a minimum of 12 hours to cure so you won't be able to take your project home with you the same day. Part of this is a teaching workshop where previous experience is not required but helpful and there is an age requirement of 18+. Dress accordingly as resin is impossible to remove once on your clothes (aprons and gloves are provided).
Refreshments such as pop, water, coffee & tea and a little snack are included but feel free to bring your own if you want.
Lower level studio location so one flight of stairs (with solid railing) is involved.
All supplies are included in the cost of the workshop.

Winter Wonderland Lanterns in Resin
Saturday, Nov. 23/24 11am-3pm
$90
Assemblage is an exciting art form in which we layer elements or “found art” treasures three dimensionally creating a collage that project out of—or on top of—the item such as a canvas, or in this case, the glass doors of our lanterns. Selecting objects that interest and/or inspire you, you will choose a white or black lantern to use as our substrate on which to glue our “found art” elements. Each lantern is 6”x 6”x 11” and has four glass doors that will be removed, coated with resin, and then our found objects placed into the resin which will then act as the adhesive to keep our objects in place. Once cured/hardened, the resin is completely transparent like glass with our objects held firmly in place.
The possibilities are endless as to what you can use to adorn your lanterns: photographs, lace, ribbon, jewelry, puzzle pieces, glass gems, glass gravel, feathers, leaves or pressed flowers, old coins, gears, pins, keys, sand, snow, buttons, verses/sayings in acetate - whatever! Go with one cohesive theme for all four of your doors or design each door as a separate piece of art—it is your choice! This class we will have amazing seasonal jewelry pieces/ brooches for you to choose from to decorate your lantern.
Each person will choose a metal lantern which has four glass doors that will be removed and transformed in to four separate pieces of art. There are a variety of lanterns available for you to choose from (white, aluminum, black, beige) and are medium sized (11" to 13" high). You can use one colour cohesively for all four panels or go wild and do each piece in a totally different colour pallett. In addition, each person is provided with a specific number of large and smaller stone crystal quartz and a choice of stunning glass gravel to enhance the overall effect. You will have access to unlimited amounts of other decorative materials such as liquid silver chrome, liquid gold, shattered glass which can be coloured with alcohol inks, glass gravel and silver/gold/rose gold foil, mica powders & epoxy pigments.
Although all supplies are included in this class, if you have items you think you may want to incorporate into your design, you are encouraged to bring them along with you and our Creative Coach can assist you with your design ideas!
No previous experience is necessary to participate in this workshop. Minimum age is 18 but if you are younger, pre-approval is possible but you will need to speak directly to the Creative Coach. Class size is limited.
